Past President and Chair of the Institution of Chemical Engineers Centenary celebrations John McGagh, provides a summary of this project and invites you to engage and enjoy the content.

Through this project we honour the work of chemical engineers, past and present, and their contribution to the societies they serve. We also present the innovations being developed to meet the many challenges of the future. The project has been made possible by the invaluable contribution of our members who have told the stories and reflected on how the future may look

Developed out of those practising industrial chemistry in the late 19th Century, Chemical Engineering helped solved the problem for an unprecedented demand for the quality and supply of raw materials. The size of the activity and the efficiency of the operation had to be enlarged and this newly emerging profession led the way developing and applying new processes and techniques to support demand.

ChemEng Evolution Project featured keynote presentations by two distinguished chemical engineers as part of the volunteer recognition events at the University of Manchester and Imperial College London. The first event took place on the 23rd November 2022 at Manchester in which Prof Adisa Azapagic spoke about the 'Systems, life cycles and sustainability: The role of chemical engineering'. The second event is scheduled to take place at Imperial College in London in March 2023 in which IChemE former president Ken Rivers will give a keynote lecture to mark the culmination of IChemE centenary celebrations.
